My Grandmother's Garden

When I accepted this calling it was in hopes of inspiration from beyond the veil. Sacrilegious maybe but non the less true. my wonderful grandmother had this calling several times throughout her life and was amazing at it. she died while I was very young but I have come to know her through the people she touched and the treasures and talents she left. I feel like I know her. My mother Gave me one of her old hymn books that she used while having this same calling, inside was highlighted songs a lot of which are in the current book but one in particular was not, one which my mommy has often sang to me and which I was able to learn.

I thought it was a good one to share with my primary and we will sing it for mothers day. Traditionally the children sing to mothers but its grandmas day too! so without further ado

My Grandmother's Old Fashioned Garden

My grandmother dear
Has a garden,
Old fashioned and quaint
As can be
The flowers so rare,
That none can compare,
'Neath the plum and apricot
And cherry tree.

Would you like me to
Show you the garden?
Then follow me now
And we'll go
'Round the old grape-vine arbor,
Back of the walk,
Where the birds and the butterflies
And flowers grow.

In my grandmother's
Old fashioned garden,
There are flow'rs
Of every hue
Daffodils, pansies,
And hyacinths
And old fashioned pinks
Are there too

I belong to
My grandmother's garden,
I was picked
From the family tree;
So out in my grandmother's
Old fashioned garden,
If you come there
You will find me.

Fresh Perspective

Up till now this blog as been about Nursery well now I have been called to Primary Chorister!

I am excited but really I am scared! They are gonna eat me alive. So I am going to attempt to blog about it. bare with me as I am horrible as expressing my thoughts in word.

(My feelings would best be expressed in a monologue from the made-for-TV movie: Super Star Starring Molly Shannon "I just want you all to know that I am multi-talented, but today I have chosen to express myself through song.")

Really Though so January we focused on I am a Child of God

It seems to be a favorite but not really mine

I did the walnut Idea, I am not sure which site I saw it on but sister kickball likened the song to the gospel in a nut shell I liked that thought so I put hints to the song in several walnut shells and carefully hot glued them closed then the kids got to smash them. it was great!

we still need to teach the order of the verses but they know the verses

For February the song was I Know Heavenly Father Loves Me which is a favorite of mine. I decided to teach it to them in ASL super fun they are eating it up! so now we are just reviewing them.

I am missing the first Sunday in March so I decided to introduce the song today. I took the picture of Jesus with the children and asked the kids what it would have been like to be a child in Jesus time. would you behave differently? then I read the first verse of If The Savior Stood Beside Me. I took all the words/illustrations and we put them in order.
That is what we have done so far, I will try to keep you up to date on the future plans!

Paper Sack Bears

Toilet paper Jesus is one of my favorites
its time consuming to cut it out but I think its worth it
just leave little tags below the necks and on the sides of the arms
and wrap each roll with white paper.

Lesson # 20 I will be Reverent

This lesson was an absolute hit!

The hardest this was finding good sized brads
I first went to 2 different office supply stores with no luck then went to Micheal thinking I was going to pay and "arm and leg" but they had 100 colored Brad the perfect size for 2.99ish which will be more then enough for the average nursery.

I printed the kids and badges on card-stock for stability.
you might find it to be a lot of work, but I pre-made all of the kids and let them color their badges. for the lesson activity.

Lesson # 9 I HAVE A BODY LIKE HEAVENLY FATHERS

to Transition from Snack time to Lesson I definitely  like the suggestions from the book

I am planning to march around the room with the kids singing "If your ready for a lesson" to the tune of " If your happy". (CS Pg.266)
I know how much they love "Ring around the Rosie" so on the last line "come sit down" we will sit

If you're ready for the lesson come sit down.
If you're ready for the lesson come sit down.
If you're ready for the lesson, it will surely be a blessing.
If You're ready for the lesson, come sit down. (sit down)

the kids in my ward love to color so for the activity I wanted to do something along the same lines as the suggestion but Girls don't wanna color a boy! so this is what we (my mother and I) came up with

Then for another activity we will go through the Poem  and do the action suggested in the book
 (bottom of pg. 40)

We are also going to trace their hands and sing “I Have Two Little Hands" (CS pg. 272)
